Wound Care & Nutrition
Good and necessary nutrition play an important role in the process of healing wounds. For better healing, the body needs an increased and essential amount of nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins like A, C and E, calories, and also minerals like zinc, iron sometimes. Wound healing may be prolonged and impaired without proper or adequate nutrition. The nutrient demand increases as the infected wounds causes’ damage to the tissues, which leads to strain and later a deeper ulcer. Poor nutrient intake also leads to dehydration which reduces the blood circulation efficiency; impair the supply of oxygen which makes the wound extra vulnerable to breakdown. Neglecting the nutritionary health of a person with a wound can compromise the entire wound management process. Improved nutritional status permits the body to heal wounds just like the accelerated wound healing seen with nutritional supplementation.
